Traditional Feng Shui vs Flying Stars Feng Shui: What’s the difference?
If you’ve ever dipped your toe into Feng Shui, you’ve probably noticed it can feel… overwhelming.
And that’s because there are over 120 different schools of Feng Shui.
Some practice what’s called Traditional Feng Shui, while others (like me) use Flying Stars Feng Shui.
But what’s the actual difference? And how do you know which one is right for you and your home? Let’s break it down.
Traditional Feng Shui: The one-size-fits-all approach
Traditional Feng Shui is often taught in a more fixed, rule-based way. It allocates remedies to each area of the home that never change, no matter where you live.
Here are some of the common principles in Traditional Feng Shui:
- The entrance of the home is always treated as “North,” even if it isn’t North on a compass.
- Remedies are universal - the same rules are applied to every home, no matter its orientation, age, individual personality.
- For example, water at the entrance is considered essential for everyone, regardless of whether that’s actually supportive for that particular home.
While these rules can feel simple and accessible, they don’t account for the individuality of your home, its orientation, its history, or even the people living inside it.
Flying Stars Feng Shui: The bespoke approach
Flying Stars Feng Shui, on the other hand, treats every home as unique. Instead of blanket rules, it works with the energy of your specific house.
Here’s how Flying Stars differs:
- Compass-based: It uses a compass to find the true North of the property.
- Time-based: It recognises that energy shifts over time, so remedies evolve as your home moves through different cycles.
- Individual remedies: Rather than applying generic rules, remedies are tailored to the home’s needs, supporting both the property and the people who live in it.
Because of this, Flying Stars Feng Shui often feels deeper and yes, a little more complex, but it’s also far more accurate and impactful.
Think of it like this:
- Traditional Feng Shui is like following a wellness app that gives everyone the same set of guidelines.
- Flying Stars Feng Shui is like working 1:1 with a nutrition coach who understands you as a unique individual and gives you tools that actually meet your needs.
One is general. The other is personal, powerful, and transformational.
So which one is right for you?
If you’re looking for quick, broad-stroke guidelines, that are simple to understand, Traditional Feng Shui can give you that starting point.
But if you want to truly shift the energy of your home and see those changes ripple into your life, Flying Stars Feng Shui will take you much deeper.
It’s not about following a rulebook. It’s about creating a flow that’s aligned with you, your home, and your life as it evolves.
Your home has its own personality, its own story, and its own energy. Flying Stars Feng Shui allows you to understand that on a deeper level and work with it, rather than applying the same “fix” to everyone.
