Why investing in yourself shifts everything

This is a huge topic. I’ve spoken about this before (back when I was coaching), but it’s still something that needs discussing more, especially as women. There’s this outdated narrative that we should keep pouring into everyone else first: kids, partner, friends, parents, family, pets, even the home. And then, maybe, if there’s something left over, we put into ourselves.

But here’s the thing: it shouldn’t come at the cost of your own energy.

I’ll be honest, the first time I invested in myself, I felt genuine shame. Like it was selfish of me. Like I was doing something wrong.

And here’s the thing: investing in yourself doesn’t always have to be about money. Yes, sometimes it’s a financial investment, but it can also be your time, energy, or intention.

When giving becomes draining

Before I started this journey, I gave everything I had to everyone else.

Even with baking. If you know me, you know I love baking. But back in my office job, I became known as “the baker.” People would literally stop me in the corridor and ask if I had cake. It was flattering, but it got to the point where I was baking at 10 or 11 at night - not for joy, but for everyone else.

It wasn’t sustainable.

The power of boundaries.

The first time I worked with a coach, everything shifted. Coaching is different from therapy (both have their place), but a coach helps you build the mindset and beliefs that carry you into the future you want.

And one of the first things my coach asked me to do, instantly noting how much of a people pleaser I was… Was create boundaries to protect my energy.

It felt hard. Saying no. Not people-pleasing. Choosing myself. But that work, which I started years ago, is still carrying me today.

What investing in yourself really looks like.

Here’s the thing: investing in yourself comes in many forms. For me, it’s looked like:

  • Working with coaches and therapists.

  • Stepping away from social media when I needed space.

  • Blocking people on socials for a while so I could breathe (free but powerful).

  • Saying no to things that drained me.

  • Journalling until my hand cramped.

  • Taking solo trips.

  • Decluttering my space.

Some of these cost money. Some cost nothing but time, energy, and intention. All of them shifted my energy.

Why energy matters (for you and your home)

When you invest in yourself, your energy changes. You show up with a higher vibration, a higher frequency. And the truth is: when we’re vibrating higher, we attract more of it.

It doesn’t mean you’ll never have bad days, but it does mean you move through them with more strength, more self-trust, and often more quickly.

And think about this: the people you admire, the ones who embody your version of “success” - how’s their energy? Magnetic?

Your energy is your foundation. And when we talk about Feng Shui and the energy of your home, that matters. Your home can’t flow if you’re constantly depleted.

So here’s my question for you:

How do you feel about investing in yourself?

Do you feel resistance? Shame? Guilt?

If so, I’d love to invite you to lean into that. Explore what comes up. Reframe it. Because your energy is important and investing in yourself is never selfish.
